It was a huge field, something like 44 guys in the 4 race and I quickly went straight to the back of the race. Luckily some junior was too excited and rode straight off the course early on causing a bit of a traffic jam and I was able to move past about 10 guys straight away. Things spread out pretty quickly and I began moving up from there.
It was super frustrating working hard for a half of a lap to see all of your progress disappear with on stupid turn or mount/dismount. I really couldn't tell you what else was going on in the race, and had no real idea where I was or wasn't in the field. We rolled through 3 to go and all I could really think of was a beach somewhere warm and sunny. Legs were burning and lungs were frozen and on fire at the same time. Mercifully the next time through there was only one to go an with the end in sight was able to pick off a couple more places and finish strong.
I was really confused looking through the results not seeing my name only to realize my British Cycling license had caused a bit of confusion. They had gotten the team name and rider name mixed up and had scored me as London Dynamic. I wasn't there to witness it but apparently it made for a funny conversation with the officials, and some jokes about that being my porn name.
I didn't crash at all so was super excited and consider it to be a success for that alone. I did however end up the a mystery injury of unknown origin. Kristen thinks its gang-green.
Here are some other BOT racers. Congrats to Mon for her 4th place, and condolences to Raton for the most expensive $ per minute ride of the day.
